Case Study: Brand Identity Development

The Ask

When my good friend David Murray founded Dehradun Guitar Company, he needed a brand identity that would represent both the incredible quality of their hand-made instruments and the culture and people of Dehradun India where they’re built. He also needed a brand that would resonate with guitar players and stand the test of time.

The Work

I dug deep into research of the region, luthiery and guitar culture, and designed a mark based on the lotus, a flower that in India represents beauty and purity. The labels inside the guitars are handmade paper crafted in the area, with the mark and logo hand-stamped in ink. We kept the typography classic, and combined the letter “D” with the lotus for their guitars headstock.

Creating the brand identity for Dehradun Guitar Company has been one of the greatest honors of my career. As a musician myself and friend of founder David Murray it was not only a fun project but one that I’m extremely proud of. Seeing the identity I created serve their amazing guitars so well is a true blessing.
